Dear Indica Fans, dear User of the former Forum,

unfortunatly, most data was lost due to the cyber attac. Still we´re trying to rescue as many topics/posts from the former forum and insert them into ours. These "Quote-Topics" will be added soon and hopefully make you all feel at home.

Hope you´ll all have a much fun and a good time here.

When any questions come up, feel free to ask.

Yours Andy & Indica-Fans.net Team

Terve! Good luck to the new English forum :)
Hope this is in good timing for an upcoming album release...?

A thought about the data from the old forum:
I don't know if you're trying to import it wholesale, but there's some of it that I always thought was a bit messy, namely all the lyric translation. Most of it was done by Finnish speakers, and it's as good as we'll get I guess.
However, it was done at all sorts of times, often in ongoing translation blogs, and as a result if you wanted to find a particular song, it meant wading through loads of old topics and pages.

Is there any chance you could 'rationalise' it somehow, so that they were all in one place, organised by album etc., so new English speaking fans would be more encouraged to seek out the old material?

Cheers, Mark

I can´t say whether or not these files will be returning to the forum anyway, since due to the huge amount of topics, we might limit them to those most relevant. Maybe a better option for those translation would be to make them a part of the indica-fans.eu site, and file them under the album they belong to.
If any of you yould like to sort out some of the lyrics/translations and thereby help us with it, would be great.

Cheers

Andy

Hi Andy!
A suggestion if I may: as the old topics go, I think it would be best to make some sub-forum and archive them there so they don't create a chaos here. A lot of those topics were abandoned few years ago and best thing would be to just simply open the fresh and new ones so we don't have a lot of grave digging and confusion.
Those more important, namely those with lyrics like Mark said, could be extracted, cleaned and made sticky so people don't have to search through whole forum.

Agreed, seems to be a good solution ^^;

If I remember correctly there was only a few topics that were active, and most of the topics on the forum were abbandoned and forgotten. I suggest to return the most recent and the most popular topics. I agree with Wishmaster a sub-forum is a good idea.

it is problematic... for example, we had a topic "video In Passing" there, if it is archived, where can be such a situation: a new member comes, wants to write smth about this video, and what has he/she to do? To create a new topic about this video? Then we'll have double topics in "new" and "old" sections. You never know when the old topic can be revived. One more example: imagine, than this video gets some prize, we need to discuss it. And again we'll have to create a double topic? In any case, it is better to leave these old topics opened for new messages, cause we cannot predict when we'll need a certain thread. To avoid chaos, it is also possible to create such divisions: discography, media, fan-art, photos, videos, Jonsu's sideprojects, extra, etc.
it's up to admin, of course, to decide

Well I don´t wanna make that desicion all alone. As I see it, as a community we should discuss this topic and then decide what solution is agreed to.

What do you guys think: Should I open a poll for a short periode of time to what solution is liked by the most of us, or do we sort things out like we do right now?

I´m not the kind of Admin to "Rule with an iron first" ;) A democratic solution would please almost everyone I guess.

probably too early to open poll, because there can be several ways of solution, some new ideas can appear... Now 3 variants possible: archive section of old forum with closed topics, old forum section with open threads, no division into "old" and "usual" forum

Maybe we should check all the topics and choose these ones who have to be returned, and other ones (like in passing video, or islands of light video) merge into one topic "Videos" "Singles" etc. And of course there will be some topics that are totally unusefull right now (like Introduce yourself). Of course we have to ask everybody, I don;t know what do others think.

Maybe all the things from the old site should be put in a locked archive. If someone wants to discuss one of the archived topics, we can have a set rule where they create a new topic and say "refer to old forum archive blah bla" or something.

Hei taas / Hello again
I was wondering if I still had any of those translated lyrics. I do; not all, but quite a lot. Shame that I've lost the dates of posting, and the authors, so I can't credit those who did them unfortunately. I know many were done by Aslak, sadly no longer with us; and they were all given the once over by Wizzu - does he still look in?

Anyway, what would you like me to do with them? Simply post them, maybe separately by album?
Sounds like the simplest thing, then you (Andy?) can lock/sort them out as you see fit?

Mark

Posting the lyrics separately by albums would be a nice idea, I think. It would be too cluttered if it were all in one topic, and some translation topics are a must, in my opinion. So if you could do that, it would be nice.
As far as the topics from from the former forum are concerned, I'd say Watchlord has the right idea with putting them in a closed off/locked archive of sorts, but with the possibility to "revive" them, as seen fit by the moderation team (and by member request, if any). I'm not very familiar with how the whole forum organization thing works, and as such I'm not sure if topics can simply be locked and unlocked back and forth so easily, but if it's possible...

Niko, Nico, Mark, it is great to see you on the forum! I saved the topics English Discussion and lyirics translations, but they are large and need time to repost. I have also a document where I saved lyrics separately by different users (indicated the translator), I am not sure I saved the best variants of translation (I do not know Finnish). In these topics there are important notes from Wizzu to differernt translations by other users.
I think we must leave old topics open, e.g. we have topic "Indica in Different Compilation Albums", if we need to add some info, must ask to open the topic, or create a new one with the same title in the "new" section of the forum? It is inconvenient.

How should we revive the Media thread? Will someone post its contents as such or would it be better if I and the other translators posted the translations back one by one? At least I have my own translations on my computer and I could post them again in chronological order. However, some interviews are no longer online and I'm not sure if it would be appropriate to post sourceless translations.

I've done some searching. At least the following interviews that I've previously translated are still online:

Ikuinen Virta era:

An interview with Jonsu and Jenny in the tv program Buusteri (autumn 2004)

we can post only interviews + translations (if they are in Finnish). But it is difficult to place in chronological order (as u have done).

Thanks for the links. It great to have them organized in one post.

We are restoring old topics in alphabetical order - me from the end, Andy from the beginning of ABC.

Okay. A couple of interviews on my list are translations I posted to the old Nightwish forum which is now offline. I'll post those translations to the Media thread when it is recovered.

By the way, while making the list I found a ten-minute YleX radio interview from the compilation album era:
http://ylex.yle.fi/radio/vieraat/indica ... -on-hiottu

As far as I know, no one has ever translated it. I'll translate and post it when the Media thread is back.
